learning advisors

The distinctive culture of this school will be of younger and older people working together with mutual respect and in creative collaboration.

It stands to reason then, that we have opted to redefine our ‘teachers’ as Learning Advisors. We feel that ‘teaching’ reflects an old paradigm where ‘students’ where seen as empty vessels waiting to be filled. The power of self-determination was also taken away from the individual and put in the hands of the teacher. We see our young people quite differently.

In this new paradigm we see young people as having their own talents, ideas and perspectives to help shape their own learning experience. Our Learning Advisors are just that – advisors. They guide each individual’s learning through exploration, creativity and discovery. We have found that young people not only respond well to this type of guidance but thrive as they develop a real sense of self-fulfillment and pride in their own particular learning journey.

Our Learning Advisors will be specially selected, well educated and highly skilled. They will be backed by a team of school educational leaders and specialist support staff, including educational psychology, social and LifeWork managers.
